Having recently posted materials about the Progonim pesniu project and Secret of the Third Planet, we need to say a word or two about Kim and Buran. This Petersburg duo are creatively connected to the former - via Solnze Records - and inspired by the same cartoon as the latter.
Secret of the Third Planet is, as we’ve mentioned before, an extremely well-known Soviet kids’ cartoon of 1981 that even today has strong connotations of a carefree, yet adventurous childhood. Kim and Buran take their name from the two male protagonists, a couple of space captains.
These identities are transferred to Slava Zav’ialov (aka DJ Kim) and Igor’ Tsvetkov. They began experimenting in their youth with semi-functional Soviet hardware, thus producing noises that were very evocative of late Soviet sci-fi, too.
